Horse Training

Rymar specializes in the training of young horses as
well as correcting problem areas in horses that need special
attention. In the latter case we work with horse and owner to bring
both to the same level so that progress can be made and improved
riding skills can be focused on.
We can train your horse in
English and/or Western riding disciplines from trail riding through
top level competition.
The young horses we train
are handled in a fair and consistent manner to achieve the quiet,
disciplined animals that will be a pleasure to ride. Our trainers are
experienced professionals that know just how to bring a young horse
through its basic training with balance and control, and most
importantly, initiate them to correct handling techniques.
The most successful program
to bring an untrained or inexperienced horse to the proper level for
riding enjoyment is a three-month, full-board training program. The
horse is schooled 5 to 6 days a week, starting at the very basic
movements at the walk and progressing through to jog/trot and working
up to the canter. The continuous repetition and reinforcement of the
correct balance and movements over a longer period of time ensures the
likelihood that the horse has this solidly ingrained in its behavior.
This is one of the main goals for most riders – to have a horse that
responds to their commands, but this does take time and expert
know-how.
It is up to the horse
owner how long their horse stays in training. This will vary
depending on the preference of the owner, previous riding experience,
and the temperament of the horse.
Rymar also offers a
full-board, one-month program which will get a horse with relatively
minor difficulties back on track. For a more experienced rider,
this may be sufficient to continue training at home, returning for
private instruction periodically.
Every horse and every
rider have different strengths and weaknesses – our programs are
individually designed for your specific situation – call and let Rymar
help you and your horse enjoy working together as a team !
What you can expect
from 30 days training of a previously unridden horse:
The horse can be ridden at a walk, trot and canter on command in the
round pen. In the initial 30 days the horse will understand backing
up, turning and stopping cues. A horse with 30 days training is still
unpredictable and not considered a “seasoned” horse and could very
well still be capable of bucking, spooking and picking up bad habits
if the rider is not experienced with young horses. The progress of
each horse will vary depending on its temperament, maturity and
breeding.
What you can expect
from 60 days training:
The second month the horse will continue perfecting the skills
learned in the first 30 days. Repetition is the key for the young
horse to grasp the solid groundwork necessary to move on to more
complex maneuvers in the future.
The
horse begins riding outside the round pen and on the trail. The
horse will learn to side pass and begins to attain the coordination
needed to gather himself for more collected movement in his gaits, and
to improve transitions (changing from one gait to another)
What you can expect from 90 days Training:
The third month of
training, again, focuses on reinforcing all the training in the
first 60 days. The more riding a young horse gets, the less likely
his training will become “undone”. This is a period of time
that we like to bring the horse and rider together. It is
highly recommended that the owner begin riding the horse while the
trainer assists by teaching the rider the cues the horse is
accustomed to.
